Rename lots of files

Is there a way I can rename a lot of files with the same "middle part" to file names with a new "middle part?"

For example, I have hundreds of files named like this:

    aaaaaaaa.INT1.doc
    bbbbbbbb.INT1.doc
    cccccccc.INT1.doc

I want to change the INT1 part to IP1 for all the files. I tried (from a command prompt):

    ren *.INT1.doc *.IP1.doc

    But I get aaaaaaaa.INT1.IP1.doc , etc.

Anyone know how to accomplish this bit of housekeeping?

    Re: Rename lots of files

If you are renaming all the files in the folder:

ren * *.
    ren *. *.IP1.doc

    Note: the dots are important.

If there are other files, but you are only changing those with a .INT1.doc extension:

ren *.INT1.doc *.
    ren *.INT1 *.IP1.doc

. . . but you probably don't need to know that now.

    Leif,

That's the ticket! I was trying to do it in one command, but your two stepper works just great. Thanks.

    MerC,

Nice program. Thanks for the info. I'll need a few minutes or so to figure this out -- pretty busy UI.
