    Overstrike e with a -? (Word 2002)

I need to create an "e" with an overstruck "_". Like a long e. (a little line over the letter e). If it's already in the symbols, I can't find it. Tried overstriking with Ctrl+_,e but it doesn't work. then tried the EQ field code, but the underscore character shows up below the e instead of over it and the hyphen goes through the center.

    Hi,

Try the field {QUOTE 275}, where the braces are created via Ctrl-F9, then press F9 to update. That'll give you

The Quote field works. Tried to research the field for better understanding but don't have a clue why it works. What is 275? Thanks so much for your help.

It works because 275 is the decimal value of this character in Unicode. You can get the same result by typing 113 followed by Alt-X. This is because 113 is the hexadecimal equivalent of 275 and Alt-X does the conversion from Hexadecimal to Unicode.

If you find the character in Insert Symbol then it will tell you the correct number to use next time...

Although it's of little relevance, I believe the "overbar" symbol you are referring to is called "macron"...

It even appeared on IBM mainframe UK keyboards, if I remember correctly!

Thanks for all of the information. I now have my symbol and am much smarter. This is a great place!
