Shrove Tuesday

    Its PANCAKE DAY - yipeee!!!!

My favourite has to be the original one I remember from childhood - lemon juice and sugar - lovely.

Does anyone else have a favourite?

    Re: Shrove Tuesday

I made a big discovery last year - use lard in the pan, not olive oil.

Perfect pancakes, one after another (except the first one, of course).

I've dabbled in Ham & Cheese as well as Banana & Ice Cream, but I just keep going back to traditional Lemon & Sugar.

Wouldn't pancakes made by yourself be Fish pancakes?

Fish pancakes - do such things exist? I'm trying hard not to think of how that would taste with lemon juice and sugar.

How about some Fishcakes ?? The lemon juice would be fine, but I'd hold off on the sugar if I were you.

No, NOT Lard, NOT Olive Olive - but butter!

If I'm going to be bad, it should taste good!

Lard hardly has any flavor to speak of. You can fry with lard to avoid the over-browned butter problem, and add a fresh pat of butter at the table.

Its why we always had a dog - to take care of the non-perfect pancakes!

The best way for me to do them is on a non-stick surface so I can add the "fat" to the finished product and not feel so guilty about the calories and adding to the cholesterol count!!
