    "We cannot ..." no subject?

I just posted a VB/VBA message with a subject of "Out Of String Space", INCLUDING the quotes, and got the (to me) familiar message about how I'd ignored the subject. Again.

    But I hadn't.

So I "back" and delete the leading double-quote, and it posts OK.

Not a big deal, just wondering if anyone else has found this?

I mention it because often in tracking down a "harmless" bug we can discover a potentially deadly bug.

    "We cannot ..." no subject?

Umm. It works ok if you are modifying a post... I'll compare the scripts and see if I can spot the difference.

    Ouch! You're right.

I was in such a hurry to get out of herelast night I didn't realise it had done for me what i was saying it didn't.

Spend no time on it, please. In the first instance I was curious if anyone else had spotted this perturbation.

I'll go play with myself over in the test area. Time I checked it out anyway.

    Re:

OK. It happened again (10am EST)

I posted a message on Word with a subject >"based on" Heading style< and got knocked back "We cannot ...". I removed the leading quote and it posted. But I notice that it DROPPED my text after the (now sole) quote.

I haven't gone back to play/edit it in case it still has some entrails hanging out.

I took two screen snapshots, one of the "we cannot" message, one of my screen after I used my browser's back button. Also pasted the original subject line into a Notepad file. All u/l to my web site as <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.vif.com/users/cgreaves/erase.zip>erase.zip</A> and I'll leave it there until you've told me you've d/l it.

That it has happened twice in two days tells me it's not a fluke.

I'll maybe continue to live close to the edge and continue to use double-quotes as the leftmost character of a subject string until I can generate the fault on demand.

    Re:

If I reply to a post with quotation marks in the subject, then the part after the first " drops out when I preview. Does this help?

    Re:

Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes. A dozen times Yes, thank God it's not a thousand.

Can you duplicate this at will?

If "it" is dropping text after the first double-quote, then a subject with a leading double-quote would have all its text dropped, and hence appear as an empty subject line generating "We cannot ...".

That would also explain why, after I remove the offending leading double-quote, text after what used to be the second double-quote is ignored.
