Favorites button missing from Open/Save As dialog (Windows XP)

The Open and Save As dialog boxes in my programs (such as Word) do not show a button for Favorites on the left. I have Recent Documents, My Computer, etc., but not a Favorites button.

How can I add the "Favorites" button to that display?

    Thanks much!

    Linda,

I may be that Favorites is just hidden, not missing. Check out the MSKB article 282087, that shows how to customize the " my places" bar.
It also mentions that some default items ( like favorites ) may be hidden and how to UN hide them. It applies to Word, Office, Excel and some other apps.

    See it at CustomizeMyPlaces

I have a followup question--it looks like the solution in the Knowledgebase article only affects the Open dialog box and not the Save As dialog box. I still don't see the Favorites button in the Save As dialog box. Any ideas how to add it there as well? Seems bizarre that the "My Places" bar wouldn't be the same in both.

I agree. I would have thought both. I'll have to do some "checking around" to see if I can come up with something.

Maybe you might put a post in the "Word" Forum, there may be someone there with the answer right on and ready?
