    Compact & repair problem (XP)

I'm working with a split database. When I attempt Compact & Repair in the front-end, I get a message box: "Table 'TempMSysAccessObjects' already exists." Yeah...so...? What is this message trying to tell me? I can compact-and-repair the back-end just fine. Do I even need to run this utility on a front end?

Although a frontend database usually is less prone to grow in size than the backend, it is still advisable to Compact and Repair from time to time. To get rid of the message, do the following:
    - Open the database; keep the Shift key down to bypass startup options.
    - Select Tools | Options..., tick System Objects in the View tab, then click OK.
    - Activate the Tables section of the database window.
    - Select TempMSysAccessObjects and delete it (as the name indicates, it is a temporary table.)
    - Select Tools | Options..., clear System Objects and click OK.
    - Try to Compact and Repair to verify that you don't get the error message.
If the problem persists, the database is probably corrupt. Create a new blank database and import all database objects from the problem database. You will have to re-create the startup options, and if you had non-standard references in VBA, you will have to set those in the new database.
