    XL attachments (2K SP3)

I used to be able to click on attachments in this forum and view XL files. Now I get:

    The page cannot be displayed
The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser settings.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Please try the following:

Click the Refresh button, or try again later.

If you typed the page address in the Address bar, make sure that it is spelled correctly.

To check your connection settings, click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options. On the Connections tab, click Settings. The settings should match those provided by your local area network (LAN) administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).
If your Network Administrator has enabled it, Microsoft Windows can examine your network and automatically discover network connection settings.
If you would like Windows to try and discover them,
    click Detect Network Settings
Some sites require 128-bit connection security. Click the Help menu and then click About Internet Explorer to determine what strength security you have installed.
If you are trying to reach a secure site, make sure your Security settings can support it. Click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options. On the Advanced tab, scroll to the Security section and check settings for SSL 2.0, SSL 3.0, TLS 1.0, PCT 1.0.
Click the Back button to try another link.

Have I inadvertently changed something? Is something corrupted? Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Is it still happening? I was just able to clcik on an attachment and it open normally. Is it just one attachment or all attachments? If it is just one, which one.

Could you post a link to a problem post, or the post number of a problem post?

Anyone will do. The next one in the list is Left Function and Text.

When I click on the attachment:
I get the option to save the file or open it at its location
Opening it gives me no error
    saving it gives no error

I know there isn't anything wrong with the website. It's only on this computer. If I go to another computer, it opens just fine. I'm trying to figure out how to fix My machine.

Have you tried <!profile=pieterse>pieterse<!/profile>'s <!post=Star Post,290455>Star Post<!/post> "Systematic Approach to Behavioral Problems in XL". See if any of those things make a difference to your clicking on a link. HTH

Check to see that the box under Tools | Options | General "Ignore Other Applications:" is UNchecked (not ticked). (That setting will also prevent you from opening Excel attachments in Outlook.)

Select Options from the Tools menu. Click on the General tab. In the Settings section, make sure that there is NOT a check mark nest to "Ignore other applications."

    Re: XL attachments (2K SP3)

I haven't checked the suggestion from the star post because this isn't a startup problem. Excel starts fine and will open other files.

I verified that the "Ignore other application" checkbox is unchecked.

One thing I haven't mentioned is that I started using SpyBot because of a hijacked homepage. I still can't get the homepage back to www.excite.com. It now defaults to www.weather.com even though Excite appears as the designated site under Internet Options. After messing around with SpyBot and having problems with it limiting my access to Internet Options, I uninstalled it in an attempt to reset my startpage. Does SpyBot hack the registry and then leave them in place after being un-installed? Could this problem (hijacked startpage) be related to not being able to open XL attachments?

Don't know about the original question, but the "hijack" issue you can download a <img src=/S/free.gif border=0 alt=free width=30 height=15> "Hijackthis" program which I have had good luck with. You can get it from here.

Have you checked the file association for .xls?

Check in Explorer, Tools | Folder Options, File Types tab

Have you tried the things in Jan Karel's <!post=Post Here,290455>Post Here<!/post>. His suggestions will frequently help problems like this one.
