    Read-only document formatting (Word 2003)

(edited by HansV to insert <!t>[post#=...]<!/t> tag - see <!help=19>Help 19<!/help>)

Following directions in <post#=312822>post 312822</post#>, I'm trying to set up a shared template on our server. I've saved it as prompt to read-only (it's either that or use security protections.)

The problem is that when I open a new document, all my changes are highlighted. I've gone into the template and saved Tools > Options> Track Changes as none, but any new document shows text highlighted with a magic marker. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

    Thanks, Amanda

You should NOT save the template as read-only from within Word. You must either set the .dot file as read only from Windows Explorer, or ask the network people to give the "standard" user only Read permissions on the folder containing the template.

    Thanks, that explains a lot.
