Text String Search Formula (Excel 2002)

I received the following e-mail from one of my users. Any suggestions from the group would be appreciated.

I'm trying to do a formula in Excel, where it searches a cell and if it finds a certain text string, it returns one result, else another one. (Sort of a classic IF statement). The problem is that it is looking through all the text in cell and only looking for one word.

Example, for a field that reads: "BMP Permit Issued", I want to see if it contains the word "issued" and if so, return a result of "Y", else "N".

    Like this?

    =IF(ISNUMBER(SEARCH("Issued",A1)),"Y","N")

(I'm not quite clear if you mean somthing special by "The problem is that it is looking through all the text in cell and only looking for one word".)
