Need help with Parameter Query and Custom Dialog A

I created a custom dialog box to set criteria for a query. In the criteria cell of the field I'm using for a parameter I typed Forms![NameOfForm]![Control]. Access placed brackets [] around the word "Forms" and the Access default dialog box opens with the text "Forms!NameOfForm!Control." The same thing happens in the Northwind DB. When I open the Sales By Year query, instead of the custom Sales by Year dialog box the default dialog opens. Can anyone help me?

I think you may be a bit confused. Typing in Forms!FormName!ObjectName in the criteria for a query doesn't cause the form to open when you open/run the query. The form must be opened and the criteria/fields filled in BEFORE you open the query.

You should place a command button (to open/run the query) on the form which contains the criteria. If you need more detailed instructions/information post back.

    Good luck.

Thank you. Microsoft omitted the part about running the form first in Help!
