Linking Schedules via internet (Project 2002)

Is it possible to link two Project schedules across the internet? We have contractors working on our schedules, and we want to link our schedules.

    Melanie,

In theory I believe it could be possible but I am not sure how you would do this. I don't think you can link a project and use an IP address as the link. However, like on a network, if you could map a drive to the internet location it may be possible (of course, I don't think you can do this either - I am just fishing here....) I am sure that the firewalls would prevent this. Good question. <img src=/S/hmmn.gif border=0 alt=hmmn width=15 height=15>

You could just exchange and replace schedules to get the updated data.
    Regards,

Re: Linking Schedules via internet (Project 2002)

I have talked to several Project people and network people, and the general consensus is that it IS possible to link the projects via the internet by setting up a VPN connection. But, our network guys freaked over that. So, they suggested that the contractor email the updated Project to us and we save it on our network and then link our master Project to the internal saved file. That way, the contractor's schedule is updated into our Master Project, but we are not breaching any network security. Thanks for your suggestion. You gave me a direction to pursue.
