    bios settings

I have seen the advice "Check your bios settings to see if they are correct" a few times on some sites. If I wanted to check my bios settings, which I know how to get to, how would I know if the settings are correct or wrong? Is there a way to find this info for my PC?

    Re: bios settings

Since there are multiple BIOS manufacturers, the answer is (I think) that there are no "standard" or correct settings, per se. Most BIOS windows will have a selection to allow you to set the BIOS back to manufacturer defaults, but that might not be what you want. Setting the BIOS choices depends on your attached equipment and how YOU want to use the machine, AND, in some cases the requirements of certain installed software. One needs to be VERY CAREFUL when changing something in the BIOS as it is possible to cripple your machine.

Since you mention receiving notification from "some sites," I would think THEY would suggest to you what they want you to setup in the BIOS. Even then, I'd be very careful if I were you. If you can give a more specific example, maybe it would help.

    Re: bios settings

Thank you for your reply Bigaldoc. I have not been advised to check my bios settings by any site. I just seen the advice given to others. I was wondering how I would know where my bios settings are available so that I could check them to make sure that they are set the right way. You said in your reply that you needed more info. Do you mean what I have on my PC? Please reply.

No, and I didn't mean to make you nervous about this. I thought from your original post that you had been advised to check your BIOS settings by some web site. I was looking for some followup info on what site that may have been. If someone wants you to do something to your BIOS settings, they should be very specific about what they want you to do.

The BIOS is on of those areas that is best approached on the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" tack. If your system is booting up properly and not giving you any error messages or BSOD (Blue Screen Of Death) you can assume that your BIOS is just fine. As BigAl said, if you change the wrong setting in your BIOS you have yourself an expensive doorstop in place of a PC.

Take a look here and here for a more thorough read on the BIOS.

Pauliez ,,unless you are having a problem that you think you can fix in the Bios,, or you are wanting to Tweak your BIOS settings for optimal performance,,,there is no reason for you to be messing around in there. Bios Tweaking is for the experienced freaks like myself who are never satisfied with anything,,,but it is not a good Idea if ya don't know what you are doing.
