    New to Office XP (XP)

I've only been using XP for a short while. Do you find it much slower, and more likely to crash? I presume the new recovery tools are there because XP is more likely to crash? The Office Assistant seems to cause more crashes than anything else. This happened in 2000, whenever I right-clicked the Assistant. Andy.

Office XP makes heavier demands on the system than Office 2000 or Office 97. If your PC barely meets the requirements, Office XP is going to be sluggish. But on an up-to-date machine, it performs very well. I don't get many crashes, and if I do, it's mostly my own fault - stupid programming errors. I never use the office assistant, I was very glad to find that it doesn't pop up spontaneously any more.

Like Hans, I find Office XP much *less* likely to crash than 2000. I still work in both, 2000 on my personal machine and XP on my office machine, and I can honestly say that OXP is more stable and less likely to crash than 2000. Of course, I have all the updates and service packs on both versions, so your mileage may vary. Also like Hans, I was very happy to see the demise of "Clippy". <img src=/S/evilgrin.gif border=0 alt=evilgrin width=15 height=15>

Fear not, "Clippy" (and seven alternative Office Assistants!) is still available even in Word 2003 (although you have to click on Help => Show the Office Assistant).
