    non format (Office 2000 Pro)

I use Word to type short letters, lists, notice to employees, etc. Seems like every time I open, something new comes up. How do I turn off ALL formatting and just use like a typewriter. I have no need nor desire to use all the bells & whistles.

Have you tried Notepad, or if you want a modest amount of formatting, WordPad? Both can be started from Start | (All) Programs | Accessories on every Windows PC.

I don't need it quite that simple. I type alot of things on our company letterhead (which I created a template). For instance today, I had to reply to a letter from our city--used template, but then it would not stay on font and color I wanted. So finally typed letter, then changed font and color. I'm sure I just don't know what I'm supposed to be doing.

Perhaps the folowing will make the document behave better:

    Select Format | Style...
    Click Modify...
    Turn off "Automatically Update".
Repeat for other styles if necessary.

Select Tools | AutoCorrect | AutoFormat As You Type.
Turn off "Define styles based on your formatting".
