importing table data from one mdb to another (XP, 2000)

I created a DB app (with lots of linked subforms and relationships) for a friend. He split it and has been using it for a while. During that time, we made changes to both the forms and the tables. Added some tables, added/changed/deleted fields in existing tables and named the "new and improved" app version 2.0. However, we were not smart enough to document all the changes but we did not change anything that was used in relationships.

Now, we would like to bring all the data from all the tables in version 1 into version 2. What is the best way to do this that will preserves the linked data? the relationships are fully established in version 2 - we just need to to populate the tables with data.

Make a new, temporary frontend. Link to the Version2 tables. Link to the Version1 tables. They will all appear in the list of tables with "1" appended to their names to help you keep track of which table is which. Now you can create a series of queries that pull data from the version 1 and append them to version2. Append queries will preserve the value of any autonumber fields from the version 1 when they are inserted into version2. You will need to map the field names in the query grid if you've altered the field names. Be careful of the order in which you do the appends -- start with the "1" side of the 1-many relationships
