    Error at log on (WinXP)

A relative recently bought a new computer with XP Home. Everything is working fine except at start up she receives a USER ENVIRONMENT DIALOG BOX with the message: "Windows cannot load the user's profile but has logged you on with the default profile for the system.

DETAIL - The system has attempted to load or restore a file into the registry, but the specified file is not in a registry file format."

Keep in mind that this is a brand new computer with a clean load of WinXP Home.

Can anyone help out so that I can assist her?

    Thanks!
