    Modem connection (Office 2000 Premium)

Using dialup 56K modem to get email in OE6 under WinXP Pro with much memory. Computer and modem communicate but no can dial out -- silence from modem, not even a grunt. Cannot set up any network connection. Please -- ideas?

Is this an ordinary analog phone line? If not, you might need some kind of adapter, and/or you might need to set the modem not to wait for a dial tone (i.e., when the tone doesn't sound like what it's waiting for).

Thanks for the comments. Turns out the registry had gotten corrupted. Only thing to do was reinstall OS after saving data files. Problem solved
