    Autocompletion suburb/city (XP)

    Hi,

In a table I have a list of suburbs in one field and in another field the city in which they reside. Example suburb = Mt Eden city = Auckland.

In a data entry form, users currently select a suburb from a combo box based on a query that sorts the suburb field in the above table alphabetically. They do the same for city. For each new record entered using this form, there is a record stored in a field called suburb and a field called city. In some cases, no suburb will be selected (as there isn't one supplied by the customer) but a city will always be entered.

What I would like to be able to do is have the user select the suburb, press enter then on after update, the appropriate city pops into the city field on the form. This needs to be able to be over written as in some cases two cities at different ends of the country might have suburbs with the same name.

Any ideas on this? Any help would be much appreciated.

    Thanks...Peter

Why not do it the other way round? First, let the user select a city from a combo box, then - if desired - select a suburb of that city from a second combo box. See How to Synchronize Two Combo Boxes on a Form.

Thanks for that, from a data entry perspective (entry form layout) they need to enter the suburb first, but i can see how I can use your suggestion to resolve my issue. Much appreciated as always!!

    Thanks.......Peter
