    Copy&paste into merge cells (ExcelXP)

    Look at the attached sheet. Select three cells (1, 4, 7 - addresses E5, E6 and E7). Now copy and paste these into the merged cells below. So, right-click, COPY. Then select the first Merged cell (=E13), then right click - Paste....

    Why aren't just cells E13, E14 and E15 filled with resp. 1, 4 and 7 ???

    This almost seems to be 'by design'... (I didn't know that); are there ways to avoid this behavior?

    This is "known" behavior - see XL2000: Pasting in Merged Cell Duplicates Copied Cells. If you copy one cell and paste it into one merged cell, it works as you would expect, but if you copy multiple cells, the result will be duplicated. So the workaround is to copy and paste the cells one by one...

    Or not to merge cells in the first place...

    Center accross selection is a good alternative in many cases.
