Crash on user switching (XP pro SR1)

My PC is set up for multiple users but the hotswitching causes it to crash. Its OK if one user logs off and another then logs on, but if you use the 'switch users' button the second user starts to load than I get a blue screen with an error "Driver_IRQL_not_less_or_equal"

The memory then dumps (takes a while) and the 'Stop' message indicates a program called 'btkrnbdg.sys'

I am new to the board so forgive me if the problem has an obvious solution, but the user switching used to work but has been like this for some months since I had to reinstall the OS.

Is there an easy solution? Does anyone understand the problem?

Microsoft Knowledge Base has a few articles on this error message.

Thanks. They seem to point to s SCSI driver that I have no knowledge of. I am not aware of any SCSI device on my PC - can I delete it (Dac2w2k.sys)

How much memory and empty disk space on your C drive do you have?

Also how many program are running when you try a switch user?

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

Can you find the file btkrnbdg.sys on your PC and post the information from the version tab. I did a quick Google and could find nothing on the file. The error is almost always from an incompatible driver. Can you also post more info about your hardware?

    John--

That link takes me to an MSKB search list of 24 System Restore articles. Did you have a different link to some error message info in mind?

Re: Crash on user switching (XP pro SR1)

Sorry for delay (your post was at 2am local time!) - the file version is 1,0,0,0, and the author is listed as Extended Systems, Inc. Its Old Name is Krnbridg.sys.

I have a P4 1.6 with 256mb RAM using XP Pro, a 120gb WD Caviare and an 80gb Seagate Barracuda, also an extra USB 2 card which connects a 2 printers, scanner, card reader and I also have a video digitiser connected through firewire.

None of this setup was changed before the error occurred though.

    Hope this is helpful

When I follow the link, it takes me to an MSKB with info on "Driver_IRQL_not_less_or_equal". If it doesn't work for you however, just go to the MSKB and search for "Driver_IRQL_not_less_or_equal" in the WindowsXP section.

    Peter,
If you go to Extended Systems support maybe you can find some informatio pertinent to your hardware and an XP driver.
