Comparing cell values

Can somebody help with some code please?

My excel spreadsheet tracks values that change on a regular basis. I would like to compare the latest value with the previous and put an "up arrow" symbol in the next cell for those that have gone up and a "down arrow" symbol for those that have gone down.

All previous values a kept in the sheet co the compared values sit in diferent cells each time.

    Thanks,

    Simon

    Re: Comparing cell values

    Simon,

A nested IF formula with some formatting should give you what you want. Assuming the old value is A1 and the new value in B1, then the following formula in C1 will work provided that you set the font in C as Windings.

    =IF(A1=B1,"",(IF(B1>A1,CHAR(233),CHAR(234))))

For further emphasis you could combine the above with conditional formatting. If you do not have Windings on your system, you could use Symbol, and change CHAR(233) to CHAR(173) and CHAR(234) to CHAR(175).
