    Hyperlinks (Outlook 2000)

Is it possible to rename a hyperlink as it appears in an email? Normally, I copy and paste the address of something I want to to link and put it in the email I'm writing, it's recognized as a link and turns blue. What if I want to rename it so it doesn't take three lines, as many of them do? Do I need to use either Rich Text or HTML format to do so?

    Thanks

Only in HTML, RTF will deliver something like <font color=blue>John <mailto:johnbf@hendrixfan.com></font color=blue>. You could use http://tinyurl.com/ for plain text or RTF, but you don't get any choice on the displayname.

OK, so if I use HTML format how do I go about changing the display name of the hyperlink? For example, if the URL is very long and I'd like to "rename" it so that it just says "c/net.com" to clean up the email. Is this possible?

I'm not sure if it can be directly done in Outlook, but it can be done using "Insert | Hyperlink" in Word, and then copied from Word to an HTML-format message.

John, I can't get it to work. I have no problem with the Word end, but when I copy the link into an HTML-format message the link doesn't work. Any ideas?

I can create the hyperlink in Word and it works just as you described. But when I copy it and paste it into my HTML message in Outlook it ceases to be a hyperlink.
