What to use instead of Front Page 2003? (FP 2003)

In earlier versions of Office, I used Font Page, but MSFT did not include Front Page in the Office packages, so, on my multiboot system, I end up rebooting to another system that has Office XP or Office 2000 with Front Page. A nuisance, but I'll be damned if I going to buy a separate Front Page for Office 2003. Oh well, I'm likely damned anyway, but still will not buy a separate Front Page for Office 2003.

    What's the best alternative?

I've tried the free Web Matrix from MSFT, but it really is buggy and screws up valid HTML.

Word puts tooo much crap in HTML to be useful. I tried saving as filtered HTML and Word still includes too much crap, not to mention that I have to pass the stuff through HTML Tidy to get rid of wrong/non-standard HTML.

All I want is vanilla HTML, with Front Page I was able to get what I needed, but I'm not going to yield to MSFT's strategy of separately pricing FP 2003.
There's gotta be a better way.

Bearing in mind you are probably going to get what you pay for, how much do you want to pay?

    Do you want WYSIWYG?
Do you need the automated tools such as those provided by FP?
    - if not, Notepad is probably as good as anything if you know your HTML

I've used Hot Dog Pro for a few years because I got tired of the bloated Homesite versions we were using at work. If the $100 price tag is not to your liking, why don't you take a look at some of the editors available here.

    First: To the Lounge moderators.

The email I got notifying me of this posting included the following link, which does not work:

    http://www.wopr.com/cgi-bin/w3t/showthread...t&Number=349842.

    And, now, back on topic.

I used to use IE as my viewer and edit in Notepad, but I've gotten lazier as I age (Monday is my birrhday).

I go for daze/weaks at a time during which I have no need for HTML editing so it's hard to choose to pay for such a product, especially as Uncle Bill is trying to squeeze out more sales with separate pricing.

I'd ruther reboot to the systems with FP 2002 or FP 2000.

I wonder if the bugs in Web Matrixc are intentional?

If I were t o get a non-free product, I'd likely get Front Page 2003, but buy it unser an alias so Uncle Bill doesn't know he is squeezing the money out of me. Might encourage him to do more separate pricing.

In regards to your "first": the thread was moved from the FrontPage forum to Software Finds and Wants because I'm sure Leif thought you'd get better alternatives to the product in this forum. Did you get a working link to this post?
    Thanks

The thread belongs in the FrontPage forum, not here.

If you're looking for an alternative to FrontPage, then why would people who use FrontPage be the best ones to tell you about alternatives?
In this forum, everyone uses something different and may be better equipt to lead you in the right direction, no?

Because they likely know FP best.

In general, moderators should not be moving threads without asking the poster.

<font color=red>In general, moderators should not be moving threads without asking the poster.</font color=red> As you probably well know, that is our general rule. It must have been an oversight in a hurried moment - although all the non-FP material and input does tend to come up on this board. If you are insisting it be moved back, I should be happy to do it for you. HTH
