    Outlook 2003 Doesn't Exit (Outlook 2003)

When I start Outlook 2003 (connected to an Exchange Server) it puts a little Outlook icon in the tray at the lower right part of the screen. This icon has some popups for controlling notications of new mail, server problems, etc. However, if I shut down Outlook (File/Exit), Outlook closes, but this little icon remains. If I then shut down my Win2K system, it hangs because Outlook.exe is still running, and I have to shut this down manually. Why does Outlook continue to run, and is there any way to get rid of this icon in the tray? I like the new mail notification function, but this should end when Outlook is shut down. Any suggestions?

This is a known problem with Outlook 2003. Woody has discussed it a numbver of times in Woody's Office Watch. HTH
