    NAme of file in Save As dialog (Word 2000)

    I have an open word document and I select SaveAs and the name that automatically appears is for example doc1.doc. I don't want to call up SaveAs myself via VBA code but rather control what name appears in the SaveAs dialog that appears when I select SaveAs. How is this done?

    With Dialogs(wdDialogFileSaveAs)
    .Name = "Test.Doc"
    .Show
    End With

    Thanks but that requires me to show the SaveAs dialog which is not what I wish to do. In other words I just what to say what will appear as the document name in the SaveAs dialog when it is shown when a user selects SaveAs from the menu.

    That's a bit more tricky. The easiest solution might be to create a macro called FileSaveAs, which will intercept the Save As menu item, and then use the code I showed in my earlier post.

    If the file has not been saved before, the default name that comes up is the Title document property. Perhaps you want to set that value and avoid the SaveAs macro.

    I don't think this will work if the user chooses File > SaveAs from an already saved file, but then again they might like to start with the same name then anyway.

    I could not find a "Title" property in the 2000 MS Word help

    Title is the first item in the Summary tab of the Document Properties dialog. To retrieve or set it, use

    ActiveDocument.BuiltInDocumentProperties(wdPropert yTitle)
