    XP restore CD's (Windows XP)

This is the first time I am posting here and boy do I have a doosy. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have been running Windows XP which came pre-installed on my e-machine. I was having trouble connecting to the internet and after some research (and help from MSN support) I concluded that I needed to contact e-machines. They told me install my emergency restore cd's. Unfortunately, I did not received restore cd's with my computer (thank you Best Buy). E-Machine then sent me the restore cd's in the mail. I followed the instructions given and guess what????? It didn't work. I not only cannot connect to the internet but my entire XP is either gone or it is unable to start. This is the message I receive:

Windows XP could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: WINDOWSSYSTEM32CONFIGSOFTWARE Stop: c0000218 {Registry File Failure} The registry cannot load the hive (file): SystemRootSystem32Config Software or its log or alternate.

I contacted E-Machines and they told me the disks were bad. They send me new ones and I tried it again. And again. And again. I still get the same message.

Before I go out and either buy a new XP or a whole new computer (because this one is going out the window real soon), I thought I would ask if anyone had any suggestions.

    Thanks so much.

Sorry, I don't know what to advise you except, if the machine is still under warranty, I'd be fighting with Best Buy or (more likely) E-Machines for a replacement!

Ah, the advantages of buying a pre-configured, canned system!!!

    Bring it back and tell 'em to fix it or refund your hard earned cash. <img src=/S/cranky.gif border=0 alt=cranky width=18 height=25> <img src=/S/cop.gif border=0 alt=cop width=15 height=24>

Yeah, except that, if my experience as an "ombudsman" for clients having a problem with Best Buy is any indication, Best Buy will usually claim innocence and make you go to the manufacturer for satisfaction or warranty support.
