Win95 Lifetime Over?

Is Win95 nearing the end of its life? I am about to build
up a new cpu and am wondering if I should upgrade to Win98.
I like Win95 fine and would rather just ghost the old hard
disk to the new machine. However, I noticed recently when
getting Windows Media Player from Redmond that I could not
get the latest version because Win95 is no longer supported.
So I had to take the older version. This is a disturbing
fact which could portend a trend among the software
program developers especially with Microsoft pushing for it.
Has anyone noticed a trend to phase out Win95 for good?
(the cheering in the background would be from Redmond)

Re: Win95 Lifetime Over?

I personally can not think of any good reason to stay with Win95.

This link - MS product lifecycle - would appear to infer that the Win95 best-before-date has been and gone.

The writing is already on the wall as regards W98 and NT4.

If I understand things, you will NOT be able to upgrade from Windows 95 to Windows XP, you will have to buy the full new OS. So if you are thinking about upgrading to XP you will need to get 98.

Also so I heard that Office XP will not upgrade from Office 95 or earlier.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

it's a pretty good OS, better than w95.. You have to remember, W95 was the start of it all... (At least, for microsoft(and W3.11 does not count.))
