In principle, all you need for printing barcodes from any Windows application is a barcode font. Searching Google for "barcode font" will result in many hits; you will find several free downloads. There are some specialized barcode tools for use in Access; you will find them by searching Google for "microsoft access" barcode.

You can find a freeware "3 of 9" barcode font easily on the internet. I've found a couple of others, but have had trouble reading them. To use them, you need to know how to format your entry prior to printing. 3 of 9 is easy, you just have to place your entry withing asterisks. I've used such a font in a couple of applications quite successfully; nothing extra needed.

An add-in is useful if you don't want to learn how to format the entry, and if you want better control over printing (size, rotation, etc.).
