Missing stuff in Visio file (2002 SR-1)

HELP! My coworker spent a lot of time and effort on a visio file and now it's gone whacky. In Visio, if you go to File | Open and you look at this file in Thumbnail view, then you should see massive detail at the top of the screen. However, when you open the file, all the detail is gone. Any ideas what's going on? I tried ungrouping that whole section and got some error. Thanks in advance for any help. Sat.

NOTE: I attempted to attach the file but it is too large. If you would like to look at it, email me direct at cgarrick@lhomes.org and I can send it to you to look at. Thanks.

Hi Satiria. Do I understand that you can see the detail in the thumbnail view and not in the fully open view.? A couple of questions:

    1. Is it possible that the material was added to the drawing, but the file was closed without saving it? (IMHO - highly unlikely, but I had to ask.)

2..Are you using layers in your drawing? If so, perhaps, the thumbnail shows all the detail (or not) and when you open it, you see a layer without the detail.

Let me know and we can go from there <img src=/S/compute.gif border=0 alt=compute width=40 height=20>

Ron - thanks for writing me back. There appear to be layers - when I got to View | Layer Properties, there are several layers listed, and they are all have checks under the Visible and Print columns. Now, the Color column on all of them appears blank (no check mark), so I went through and changed the color of all layers to black, thinking that this would make them show up, but it did not make a difference. Now, whether those layers were put in intentionally, or were entered automatically with every new "item" enterted on the diagram, I don't know. I would imagine it was the latter.

Get back to me with any more troubleshooting I can try. Thanks again!

    Next question <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15> Are you using Background pages?. <img src=/S/compute.gif border=0 alt=compute width=40 height=20>

Is the diagram too big, or confidential, to post to this forum. It might help me to help you, if I had the actual diagram.

Hey Ron - not sure how to check to see if there are background pages. Can you walk me through it?

Yeah, the attachment is huge. That's one of the first things I was going to try, but the site quickly nixed that. <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>

Hey Satiria...If you click on one of the page tabs along the bottom, then click on File>Page Setup, you bring up the Page Setup panel with a number of tabs along the top. Click on Page Properties and you will get a display that shows Type - Foreground or Background...Name - same as on Tab...and Background - the name of its background page (if it has one). You need to find out if there is a page that has been designated as Type: Background, but has never been assigned as a Background to a Foreground page (Make sense?) You could also e-mail me the file directly. My e-mail is on my profile which you can see by clicking on the Ron M in blue to the left of my postings.
