Sort Order (XP Pro)

I've been searching for some time for the answer and can't find it. I have a friend who's File Open or File Save As dialogue boxes in XP Pro have suddenly REVERSED, like files listed from Z to A rather than A to Z. I woulda sworn I've seen an answer to this phenom, maybe even a KB article, but now I can't find it. Can someone help me out?

Whilst in the dialog box you should switch to "details" view and click on the name column heading to sort on that column. Then switch back to the view you want.

Sorry Stuart, that doesn't stick. Next time you do it, the file order is in the same thing it was before.

Sorry Dave, no relation to the reverse order mentioned. I woulda sworn there was a KB on this, but as usual, I can't find diddly on the MS web site.

(Edited by DaveA on 05-Mar-04 16:35. )
I just tried it using Word 2003 and the sort order in the detail mode was sticky for the next usage of Word.

This is the one I know of and relates to the thoughts that I posted earlier.

    Re: Sort Order (XP Pro)

Thanks to you, Dave and Stuart for taking your time. I think I found what I was looking for this morning, but I did also pass along that MS article to my friend. The registry patch was at the Doug Knox site, at this URL. Just in case anyone else needs this, be CAREFUL when editing your registry! I always look at a registry patch with a text editor first, then go to the location involved and EXPORT the current key(s), just in case.

(My Lounge search techniques are really slipping since I was sure I remember seeing that patch here. This morning I found it using a plain ol' Google)
