    Reserved Drive Letters

Somewhere a while back, I was able to reserve a drive letter for my CD drives so that they would not change whenever I added or turned on my third rack mounted hard drive i.e. CD ROM was always something like (N) drive. For the life of me, I cannot remember whether I did this in Windows via explorer or the bios. Any ideas out there?

I think what you are looking for can be found through Device Manager, on the Properties page for the drive itself.

In more detail for anyone not sure:-
Control Panel--->System Properties--->Device Manager--->select CDROM and expand--->select the particular drive (if more than one)--->Properties--->Settings--->Reserved Drive Letters, and make your choice from the drop-down menu, selecting the same letter in both the Start and End boxes. Voila!

Yeah, funny how you can't get there from My Computer and right clicking the drive...you only get one tab there. You get three tabs by going through device manager.

True, but you can get there by selecting the My Computer icon & pressing Alt+Enter to get the Properties box.

This piece of software may do the trick for you - I have been using it for some months without any problem at all (Win98 SE): http://www.v72735.f2s.com/LetAssig/
