Problem using Word as an HTML editor

    Hi,

Re http://students.hamilton.edu/2005/jrick/lenin.htm, which I created by saving a Word document as a Web page, can anyone ascertain why several lines extend far to the right, off the screen? I've tried reformatting the text, but to no avail. Thanks.

Because Word is a poor excuse for an HTML editor.

Seriously, you should consider one of the freeware alternatives out there for creating HTML documents instead of troubleshooting broken Word output. There is so much drek in a Word generated HTML file that it makes debugging it a nightmare.

If you look closely admidst all the junk, you'll see that Word put a <PRE style="TEXT-INDENT: 0.5in"> tag at the beginning of one of the long paragraphs. A <PRE> tag, as you know, will only wrap at a manual line break in the text; the browser never wraps at an ordinary space before it reaches the closing </PRE> tag. I have no idea what could be in your original document that caused this.
