Outlook 2003 Issue with Check Names (2003)

I have upgraded to Outlook 2003 from Outlook XP, no
problems. I then was given a new laptop (Dell Precision
M60) and then re-installed all of my stuff, including
    Outlook 2003.

My problem is that I used to be able to do a Check Names
with the name spelled..."Last, First" or "First Last" and
it would search correctly through my Global Address Book
(work) and my Personal Contacts. It worked great. Since
the rebuild, I can ONLY search via "Last, First".
The "First Last" search does not work.

    Any suggestions or known issues?

I've Googled and searched...others have the problem, but
    I didn't see any solutions.

    Thanks for you time.

Re: Outlook 2003 Issue with Check Names (2003)

I must admit to having all my Contacts sorted as First Name Last Name. Address checking works for with both Last, First and First Last. Do you have your Contacts folder checked to show as an Outlook Address Book (right-click and select Properties|Outlook Address Book)? You have reset the selection under Tools|Options|General? If it is a matter of how your own Contacts folder is sorted, there is some VBA code that I may be able to update to Outlook 2003 for you.

At the moment, I am looking at Outlook 2003 without Exchange Server. So I can't comment on the Global Address Book issue - which may well be more important.

    Anyway - hope that helps.

If this is the case of using Exchange Server, you may want to change the order in which names are checked. Open the Address Book under Tools menu and click on Tools, Options. At the bottom of the dialog box, use the up/down arrows to switch the order (usually the Global Address List is in the top position - this will affect how recipients names are checked) - You want to move your contacts or other personal address books to the top and GAL last! Hope this helped... trish

Re: Outlook 2003 Issue with Check Names (2003)

This is with Exchange and I don't want my personal Contacts checked first...I would prefer to have the GAL check first. But it only works in Lastname, Firstname. If I put the entry in as Firstname Lastname, it doesn't find any matches and I have to re-enter this manually.

The most confusing thing is that this used to work before I got a new machine and reloaded the software.

    Please Help!!!
