    Strange Graph (2002 NL)

(Edited by HansV to create table)

    Good morning all,

I have a question which I hope I can ask in a clear way:

A user of mine has the following table:

    <table border=1><td>B</td><td align=right>26,7</td><td align=right>106,7</td><td>Dk</td><td align=right>28,8</td><td align=right>119,3</td><td>D</td><td align=right>29,5</td><td align=right>105,4</td><td>E</td><td align=right>20,1</td><td align=right>81,8</td></table>
(it's a bit longer but this is sufficient enough for the example)
The user wants to make a spreadinggraph (option 4 of the standardgraphs "spreiding" in Dutch).
    So far so good.
    But now:
He wants the second column to be the X-axis and the third column to be the Y-axis. This I can do.
    But then:
He want the first column to be the label of the points made in graph from the X-axis and Y-axis, this I c

    Hello Daphne,

Download Rob Bovey's free XY Chart Labeler and install it as an add-in (Tools | Add-Ins..., in Dutch Extra | Invoegtoepassingen...)
This utility lets you point to a range to serve as data labels.

    Hello Hans,

Thanks again for this wonderful solution!

(unfortunately I may not use it because it's not official software blah blah, but I'm gonna take this home for homeuse).

    Bye bye!

You could also manually change them in excel, or write your own code in VB which replaces the Legends.

Once the legends are created, the addin is not needed, it is only used to create them easily, so after completing the chart, it can be shared with others and the addin is not required.

Ehm... maybe it's because of today's monday.... but I don't quiet understand what you exactly mean by manually changing them in excel.
    (or maybe it's because I'm a blond again... <img src=/S/tongue.gif border=0 alt=tongue width=15 height=15> )
    Many thanks in advance!

By manually you modify each label for each point, one-at-a-time.

You can select a data series and format it by dbl-clicking it
    The choose the datalabel tab
Pick "show value" of "Show Label" [It doesn't matter, we are going to change them]

This will add a legend to each [either the value (Y) or the label (X)]

Select a label (it will have a box around it) then:
manually enter in the label you want
or if you want it linked to a cell,
in the formula bar, enter and equal sign (=) and the cell reference (you can point to the cell if you want)

    Repeat for each datalabel.

Since this can get tedious for a large number of points, you could write a macro to loop thru each one and put a cell value in it or you can use Rob Bovey's addin which is already written.
