Corel Presentations (PowerPoint XP)

Can anyone tell me how to transfer slides created in Corel Presentations (we're talking back in '92 and 93) to PowerPoint? I have tried one group of slides. The text transfers easily, but the graphics and the formatting are pretty well lost or so messed up that it's beyond my capabilities to correct them.

Or is it just not possible? My technical level is low-medium.

We currently have XP, but are preparing to upgrade to 2003. I have read here that Office 2003 has no WordPerfect conversion capabilities so thought it best to check before upgrading. I also have a wealth of supplementary material created in WordPerfect (again in the '90s) that has proven equally challenging to convert to Word, and keep the graphics and formatting intact.

If there is somewhere else to go to find this info, I'll happily head there, too!

Hopefully,

Can you tell us the file extension used in those files? And do you still have the presentation software?

Catharine,

Yes, just checked. It's .wpg. And I do still have the Corel CD - its WordPerfect Suite 7, Presentations 7 (although under Properties for one of the actual .wpg files it says "Presentations 10" instead of 7 as on the CD).

Re: Corel Presentations (PowerPoint XP)

I've been looking around, and for a straight conversion - I think you are outa luck. Presentations and PowerPoint are organized too differently to convert well. But, in the PPT help it says it will import:
Computer Graphics Metafiles (.cgm)
CorelDraw (.cdr)
FlashPix (.fpx)
Hanako(.jsh, .jah, and .jbh)
Kodak Photo CD (.pcd)
Macintosh PICT (pct)
PC Paintbrush (.pcx)
WordPerfect Graphics (.wpg)
in addition to .emf, .gif, .jpg, .png, .bmp, .wmf, and .tiff files
So what about saving in one of these formats to import. Just to be clear, what I think, you'll have to do is save each slide in some sort of graphic format and then import it as a single graphic into PPT. Not what you wanted to hear I'm sure and perhaps someone out there will have another, better solution.

Wow! Yes, the news isn't all good, but I really appreciate the advice. It sounds as if the importing will be helpful and at least a way I can approach the task. It will be better than re-inputting everything (I'm pretty sure).

I will try to give the importing a trial run in the next few days and get back here to let you know how it works.

Thanks again,

Linda
