Changing Font Size in Printed Email (OE 6.0)

Somehow I adjusted settings somewhere in OE (run on XP) that makes any email I print out print in VERY large fonts. Can anyone tell me how to get it back to normal (which for me is Arial 12 pt)?

    What I've tried:
    1. I did go back to Accessibility Wizard, but that wasn't it.
    2. Tried changing size of font within OE, but that just changed it on the screen - no effect on printed message.

Next time, I'd better keep a record of just what changes I made in setting up a program - so I can correct them!

    Linda,

Did you go to OE>tools>options>Compose, and set the mail compose font to whatever size and type? Then OK out?

That should set the fonts for you.

Re: Changing Font Size in Printed Email (OE 6.0)

    Bob,

Thanks for your reply. I followed your directions, learned everything was set correctly (i.e., I like to compose emails in Arial 12 pt), but the print out is still way larger, regardless of where I set the font size. I have it set at "larger" on screen, but want it to print out "normal" - which it used to do. I must have messed arouind with some other setting, but it wasn't this one, it seems.

Any other suggestions? I do appreciate your help.

    Linda,

Are you using a TrueType font?
TrueType fonts print the same way they appear on your screen.

If you are having trouble getting your printout to match what you see on your screen, make sure that you are using TrueType fonts

    OR.............
    Reinstall the font.
To remove and reinstall a font

In the Fonts folder, ( control panel )right-click the font, and then click Delete.
On the File menu, click Install New Font.
Use the Add Fonts dialog box to reinstall your font from its original source

Have you looked in the Help & Support Printer Troubleshooter? Lot of ideas there also.

Re: Changing Font Size in Printed Email (OE 6.0)

    Bob,

Yes, it is a true type font. Didn't find too much in the printer help that seemed to address this issue, although I will keep looking.

Perhaps I'd better try out some more things on my own as this relates, I'm sure, to something I did when adjusting things for my vision issue. I must have set the print out to "large" - I just can't remember where I did this.

Thanks for your suggestions. I always learn new tricks and tips from these lounges. Will keep you posted on my progress - or come back for more help if I can get nowhere!!

Re: Changing Font Size in Printed Email (OE 6.0)

    Hi again,

Well, I am really stumped. No matter what I have tried (even set "compose" to 10 pt - still printed out large - looked about 14 pt). I've tried all through Accessibility, all through Options for both OE and even IE, printing troubleshooting - cannot figure out why the messages print so large! They didn't used to, but I can't put my fnger on when they stopped printing "nornally" since I haven't needed to print out emails again until just this week.

This occurs nowhere else. Arial 12 pt prints as it looks on the screen in all other MS programs and in IE. Because ot this, I didn't think deleting and reinstalling the font would make a difference as it works just fine everywhere but here. If I'm wrong on this, I will try that, too.

Guess I'm back here hoping you - or another Lounger - might have an idea of what I could try next.

    Linda,

Well, lets keep plugging away at this.

1-A MSKB article to check out. Printing

2-Run SFC repair system files. Go to start>run>type sfc /scannow> OK . ( may ask for your XP CD )

3-Check the enclosed attachment. You MAY have already done this, but.....

Try these things and let us know what happens. Starting to sound like some corrupt setting in OE. SFC may correct that.

    <P ID="edit" class=small>(Edited by IreneLinda on 11-Mar-04 13:16. Added PS)</P>Unkamunka, Eric and Bob,

Just read all of your posts.

Success! It seems the IE setting (which was on "larger" was doing it! I tried both "medium" and "smaller" - whch resulted in a corresponding change in the printed font size on my emails! I never would have thought of this solution 'cause it seems kind of dumb to have the 2 so connected. It doesn't matter, however, beccause at least I can now control how the printed emails look!

Thank you all so much, for your persistence and patience, not to mention helpful advice. How do people who do not know about Woody's Lounges cope? I couldn't!

PS Bob, I am going through the link and attachments you sent to learn more. Thanks.

PS Bob, just read your attachment and it said the same thing Eric did re. IE and OE being connected as far as text size goes. Great minds! Checked the KB re. printing, but I had already unchecked the "ignore Web page font sizes" . I'd kind of hoped that unchecking it would negate the IE/ OE link, but obviously it doesn't. Will just do the usual MS solution: adopt a "workaround"!!!
