    Word 2003 - table breaks (11/6113)

I installed Office 2003 as an upgrade to Office 2000 on an XP pro machine and I installed all of the Office 2003 upgrades from the MS web site. It seems that table properties in Word for row ("allow row to break across page boundary" and "repeat as header row at the top of each page") are not functioning properly. If I don't check "allow row to break across page boundary" the table still breaks across page boundaries. If I do check "allow row to break across page boundary" and "repeat as header row at the top of each page" I don't get a repeated header.

Any suggestions on how to remedy this problem?

    Re: Word 2003 - table breaks (11/6113)

    Hi Syl:
I'm not sure & I don't have Word 2003 to test. However, in <!mskb=288792>Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 288792<!/mskb>, it mentions:
"Don't break wrapped tables across pages: This option prevents a wrapped table from breaking across a page break. NOTE: The Allow row to break across pages option has no effect in a wrapped table."

Therefore, go into Tools/Options/Compatibility Options & see if it's checked or unchecked. Also, per <!mskb=833985>Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 833985<!/mskb>, you may have some other difficulties with "Allow row etc.". If so, you should download & install the fix at <!mskb=830000>Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 830000<!/mskb>. Please post back & let us know if this helped.
    Cheers,

This sounds like it is related to a table that has text wrapping applied to it. Can you select the table and go to Table > Table Properties and check if the table's text wrapping is set to None.

This <!post=thread 349009,349009>thread 349009<!/post> might be related to your problem.

    Re: Word 2003 - table breaks (11/6113)

    Hi Phil

Thanks for the input. I have installed the updates and my compatibility options appear to be set properly ... I think. The "Don't break wrapped tables across pages" is checked is in custom. The text wrapping for all of my tables are set to "None". For a long table that spans two pages I have "allow table row to break .." and "repeat header ...." checked. The repeated header row does not appear after the table break. I also have a small table on which the "allow table to break ..." is not checked. When I fill the space preceding the table with characters until the table is forced onto the next page it breaks across across a row boundary not the table boundary.

Could there be a bug in the Office upgrade from 2000 to 2003 that might not be there if I had done a clean install?

    Cheers
