Windows XP Search! (SP1)

One of the things I do is debate (religion mainly) and I've learned to keep all of my work on my hard disk because those I debate with frequently attempt to challenge sceptics like me with the same questions (or variations of) under the mistaken belief that they are being in some way original, that people like me have never dealt with such stuff before.

So I have a vast amount of material that I can simply repost as I choose however I have been finding using the Windows XP search facility increasingly irritating because it simply does not want to stay static ... I do a search (usually a search fro a particular word or phrase with a set of RTF files produced by Word 2003) and access the document purely to read it, when I close the document that then disappears from the search and reappears a few seconds later at the bottom. There are other times this refresh suddenly engages and I'm not sure when those are but if you imagine someone frustratedly clobbering the escape key (why I don't know) to stop the search you'll get a reasonable impression of my frustration at times like that.

Ultimately all I want is a static search list that changes when (& only when) I decide to rerun it so the question is ... how do I stop these refreshes happening?

Also are there any better utilities for search personal documents, ones that (perhaps) allow multiple keyword searches and search with search and so on?

I haven't used this, but it's and is among the stuff at List of Lists. Here's the URL: http://www.synthigence.com/eshop/10e...productcode=23

I find the WinXP Search utility equally frustrating. It seems to NOT locate many files that I know it should. My favorite free add-on Search utility is Agent Ransack. I cannot say enough good things about it. Money back guarantee.
