Supposedly I have a back up option with windows xp. However, when I go to accessories, system tools, there is no back up option. How do I access it?
    Thanks!

If you have the Home version, it is still on the CD. It is NOT installed by default and I would NOT use it. Remember that each Windows version can not read another version of this backup.

If you are using XP Home,,,, you will need to add it from the CD by using add/remove programs from the control panel.

Thanks, but I have no CD. The software was already installed when I purchased my system last year.
I currently copy the files to a CD, but thought it would be easier and faster if I had the back up option. No??

The backup utility in Windows is fine to back up to an alternate location, usually a hard drive or network location. But it is far from full featured, which is why many people hate it.

My personal method is to back up to a separate hard drive, and I also copy important data files to a CD periodically so that if the hard drive backup fails, I still have my stuff. <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>

    "but I have no CD"

You should be able to burn a CD with your system files. You may need to call your OEM for instructions on doing this. A lot of the OEM's are hiding the system back up in a hidden partition.

I copy the different folders and special files to a CD using either the XP built in burner or I will use Roxio 6.0 and I have a "Project" configured that will burn the required folders to a DVD for a complete data backup.
