    Wheel mouse with VBA (Excel2000)

OK - it's driving me bonkers.
My wheel mouse works within Excel VBA on my laptop.
I just got a new system and can't seem to get the wheel working in Excel VBA.
I downloaded some Intellipoint 5.0 software from Microsoft and installed it - restarted etc.
    Still not working.

    Any help welcome.

There was some discussion about this a few months ago - see the threads starting at <post#=336244>post 336244</post#> and <post#=324669>post 324669</post#>. There seems to be no clear conclusion. I have never been able to make the mouse wheel work in the Visual Basic Editor myself.

    Thanks Hans

..I checked the earlier posts already but they didn't help in my case.
I know I sorted this out before but it was such a long time ago I've forgotten what I did.
When I find out I'll post an answer!
Everyone wants to know how I got it working on my laptop!
    Me too!

    I'll keep searching!

Re: Wheel mouse with VBA (Excel2000)

    Zeddy,

An answer seems to be to use the 4.x version of MicroSoft InteliPoint.
That is what works on my WindowsXP machine with XL97 and XL2002.
Also, one of the posts that Hans referenced mentioned the same thing.
I have seen posts in an other Excel newspgroup saying the same.

Re: Wheel mouse with VBA (Excel2000)

    Hi Jim,

..so someone else has it working then!

I went out today and bought a new Microsoft Explorer 4.0 mouse.
This mouse hasthe new 'tilt wheel' that allows you to scroll horizontally with the wheel as well as vertically.
It came with Intellipoint 5.0 software.
On my Excel 2003, it works OK on a spreadsheet.
But in VBA, you guessed it - the vertical scroll with the wheel doesn't work!
But Hey! The horizontal scroll in VBA works OK (but, like a lighthouse in the desert, brilliant but useless).

    I'm still trying!
Are you suggesting I use the earlier Intelipoint 4 version????

Re: Wheel mouse with VBA (Excel2000)

    Zeddy,

    Yes.

I have a $6.95 optical mouse that came with its own software.
It would not scroll in the VBE. Installing and using Microsoft InteliPoint 4.12
    cured the problem.

I have the following folder that I created and installed in the InteilPoint folder:

    "Read Before Updating Drivers"

    It contains the following text...

Mouse wheel will not scroll up or down when I'm editing
code in the VBA editor for Excel Office 97. Wheel works
perfectly in every application except this one. I've
installed latest intellipoint drivers. Running XP Pro.
    This might be the problem??

If you have the 5.0 drivers that might be the problem. I tried them but
went right back to the 4.x version, mainly because of the VBE mousewheel
    problem.

The same thing happened to me - if you roll back to IntelliPoint 4.x as Jim
    suggests, you should be fine.

I removed Intellimouse 5.x and installed 4.x drivers.
Mouse wheel now scrolls in my VBA editor. Problem fixed.
    Thanks Jim,

Re: Wheel mouse with VBA (Excel2000)

    Jim,

I downloaded and installed the MS IntelliPoint 4.12 drivers for my generic mouse that came with my computer. I can now scroll in the VBE! Yehaw! Very nice.

I have the version 4.1 drivers and the wheel works fine in VBE.

Re: Wheel mouse with VBA (Excel2000)

    Thanks everyone,

..but I now like the tilt wheel for scrolling left-to-right across 160 columns in one of my files.
To tilt or not to tilt. That is the question.

..I guess I need the vertical scroll in VBA more though.

Looks like it's back to earlier Intellimouse driver then!

    Many thanks again to everyone
It's a real help having you out there.
