Word Web access during start up (XP)

What does Word do when it accesses the web during its startup? My firewall catches it regularly, but there is no indication of what's going on. Any info on this?

    thanks

    My Word 2002 (SP-2) doesn't do that.

Do you have Norton Anti-Virus? If so, is the Office Plugin enabled? This is known to contact the web. Since the Office Plugin is not necessary as long as you have AutoProtect enabled, and cuases all kinds of problems, it is advisable to disable the Office Plugin. You won't compromise your security.

Otherwise, do you load any add-ins in Word that might cause this?

I don't have Norton Anti-virus--it's Mcafee's antivirus that alerts me. There only add-ins are adobe pdf creation, notestripper (but non-functional), and wopr tools. Maybe wopr tools?

    Hi Eric:
To track down whether it's an add-in that's causing the problem, see <post#=197827>post 197827</post#>, Steps 2 & 3. If that doesn't work, maybe there's something else trying to access the web when you start Word. Check out anit spyware programs in <post#=295803>post 295803</post#>.
    Hope this helps,
