    License verification (97/2000)

Is there some way to verify a product ID to make sure it is a valid installation? I am auditing our software installations and have several that are questionable (I more installs than CDs).

    Thanks,

For Office 2000, there is a tool that calculates Product ID codes (the ones visible in Help>About) from the CD code key. For more information on the xpdec utility, see <post#=256700>post 256700</post#>.

Thanks, I guess that will do. I was hoping for something web-based that might be able to tell me who purchased or supplied the software.

If they are Microsoft volume licenses, that would be available from Microsoft's password protected volume licensing site, but otherwise, who would know? (And I should say, who would you want to know?)

I suppose you've looked at such software auditing packages as Executive Software's "SiteKeeper"

    Nope, I hadn't looked at that...downloading a trial as I type.

    Thanks.

I noticed that but didn't know if you did that for me or just for fun.

    Looks nice...

Both! Do "Save Picture" then upload it as your new userpic... [invoice follows...!]

I'm not recommending one over the other, but I do use Audit Wizard, available from Layton. It works well for my needs and is fairly flexible. HTH.
