A friend called and said whenever he tries to send/receive email, he has to enter his password and the REMEMBER PASSWORD option is grayed out - not available. What would cause that?

One must be using a "User Profile" in Windows 98 for the passwords to be saved.
When 98 starts up is there a "Log in" screen, if so what is the user doing to get Windows to continue to start up?
Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.
