    Field in Footer (Word 2000)

Is there a way to create a field in the document footer that the user can edit?
Fields are grayed out in the footer.

You can't have a form field in the footer, but depending on what you are trying to do you may be able to put the form field in the main document and use a REF field to get the same text into the footer.

Re: Field in Footer (Word 2000)

    Sorry for the long delay...

I am creating a letter head for our various branches with dropdown form fields etc.
The footer area contains the postal address, telephone and other details that changes per branch.
Once the form is locked, no changes can be made to the footer....
The document will be saved eventually as a template, but, as you can guess, the footer must be changed.
Any suggestions how I can overcome this?

    Regards

How about populating the address information into the Document Properties and using one or more DOCPROPERTY fields in your footer to display that information? Document property information is, of course, subject to removal (e.g., by metadata cleansers), but it's a convenient way to handle these sorts of things... if it works... I don't use protected forms very often.

Re: Field in Footer (Word 2000)

Just wanted to let the lounge group know that we have used the Document Properties and DocProperty fields in our templates.

Another feature that you might think about is AutoText and Styles. We have created Letterhead template to be used by our 8 different offices. In the footer of our letterhead is the address, etc. for the office. We created the style (special font, size and color) for the address. Typed the address for each office into that style and created the AutoText entry for each office. Finally for the field in the footer we used AutoList, which is like the dropdown form field.

That is the quick and dirty of how it is done.
