    Vanishing Emails (2003)

When I open Outlook, the status bar tells me I have 23 emails coming through, yet when it's finished, I have about 3 in my inbox and maybe 7 in my deleted folder. Where are the others? My rules state that various emails go to either my inbox or the deleted folder.

    Any clues?

    Thanks in advance!

Is it possible that one of the rules is set to permanently delete files?

Check to see what View setting you have, and if there are any Filters applied, on your Inbox.

    Re: Vanishing Emails (2003)

One other possibility that I discovered rebuilding my PC.

In Outlook I keep my PST folder on a separate partition rather than the default location. The folder containing the pst was called Outlook_2002. After the rebuild, I put my new pst in a folder called Outlook. Before the rebuild, I exported my rules. After the rebuild I reimported them.

When I ran send and receive, I saw everything coming in to the Inbox and disappear but where had it gone because they weren't in the intended folder or any other folder. Where were they, in the old pst which is not referenced anywhere in Outlook!

Go to the rules and see if instead of showing the redirect folder, it is saying "specified folder" as if you were in the process of setting up the rule. All I had to do was change that to a folder in my new pst and it worked again.

    Hope this helps.

    Re: Vanishing Emails (2003)

I've just tried to test my account settings and I get the error message:

    "Cannot load dialog
error 623: The system could not find the phone book entry for this connection"

Any idea what this means and how I might fix it? Is ti related to this problem?

    Thanks again!!

I turned off all my rules and I'm still only getting 4 out of 37 emails (tonight).

    Any other suggestions?

    Thanks again

Have you clicked View | Folder List to see if that shows anything. I'm sure you have but suggest it just in case.

    Ted,

Check your "Junk" folder. I found that Outlook 2003 does a good job sorting out a lot of junk and it sends it directly to the "Junk" folder.
