Faxing with broadband (XP sp2)

When I try to use the XP fax program I am only given the choice of a dial-up modem.
Can anyone explain how I can connect it through broadband?

You need a third-party program like WinFax Pro or use an internet faxing service or a broadband fax service. Both methods use email to send the faxes, but with WinFax you only pay once.

It looks to me like a technology limitation, for <!mskb=306550>Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 306550<!/mskb> (for example) says:

Requirements
A computer running Windows and equipped with a modem to use the Fax component.

I'll bet you don't know many FAX machines that will work on broadband!
See these FAX cards which work on 2003.

John, how many businesses do you suspect are actually using a broadband connection with their Windows Server 2003 setups ??? I think our friend here is a home user with an XP Home system.

Re: Faxing with broadband (XP sp2)

Sorry, perhaps I should have said rather more!

What I meant was that
IF you are going to use broadband to do FAXing
THEN you are going to need large amounts of hardware and software support, so that you can use a dummy printer driver as output from Word and have the FAXing done using all this equipment. The alternative is to use a fax modem in the usual way, a bit like a physical FAX machine.

Or use the services that you mentioned, where THEY have bought all the hardware and software and will process your email as a FAX message!

The bottom line is that the OP can't do what he thought he could do in the way he thought he could do it...!

Microsoft Outlook (not Outlook Express) can fax your document through Internet connection. Just click New | Fax...

I did on Outlook 2002 SP2 -- and I can't find anything that says FAX!

New>Internet Fax.This works in OL2003 (don't know about 2002), BUT as Doc Watson said, the user must sign up with an Internet Fax Service Provider.
