Create Mail Page Corrupted (OE 6.0)

I'm helping a friend out and he has a problem with Outlook Express. Every time he clicks Create Mail to compose a new e-mail, the page comes up with a bunch of code written on it that he has to delete before he can compose and send his message. It appears that the blank page template is corrupted -- it is never blank. How can this be corrected? Thanks.

If your friend has WinXP, he could try uninstalling and reinstalling OE - by using Control Panel|Add/Remove Programs|Add/Remove Windows Components (on the left hand side). Otherwise, I would suggest resintalling IE6 - of which OE6 is effectively part. HTH

What format is hi default plain text, HTML, or Rich text?

Also if HTML is he trying to use stationary?

Also check to see what is listed in his default "Signature".

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

Thanks for your reply. His default is HTML, and he uses no stationary or signature.

He may not be using a sigature, but you need to check and make sure that there is NO entry for a signature.

What is the code that is in the new email?

Thanks for your reply. There is nothing in the signature box. More info on his system = IE6.0.2800.1106.XPSP2.030422-1633IC with IE Update SP1. The code that appears starts with "Run In DOS Mode" and then displays several lines of jibberish.

Here's the "jibberish" code, Dave, copied and pasted exactly as it appears.

    run in DOS mode. $'

He's using Norton AV (part of SystemWorks) 2003 and it's up to date.
