PAL of mine - hard to find

I've been googling for hours now and I am going <img src=/S/bananas.gif border=0 alt=bananas width=33 height=35>. Our VCR has kicked the bucket so I need to get a new one. Because we get UK TV off the Satelite and Swiss TV off the air I need a VCR that will record both PAL I (UK) and PAL G/B (Swiss) modes. The main difference between the two is audio, and the PAL G/B only machines don't pick up UK broadcasts sound properly. The one that I had a Toshiba V-721EF isn't sold here any more (and none exist on e-bay). Most manufacturers web-sites don't even indicate the modes that their machines use.

Does any lounger know of such an animal? or more likely can any lounger point me to a web-site filled with VCR-Geeks that can point me in the right direction.

    Many thanks in advance

How about VpcBoost, a French site & Toshiba V 753EF. My French is very limited but it appears to meet your needs.

Are you referring to the Kenneth Williams quote from "Round the Horne"

    <big> "Any pal-o-your-no is a palomino!"</big>
    ?

Palominos may get into the movies, but they're usually saddled with the bit parts.

    Tony,
Thanks a lot for that. I was searching for PAL B/G and PAL I. VpcBoost is showing BG I. Why wasn't google smart enough to read my mind? In <img src=/S/flags/Switzerland.gif border=0 alt=Switzerland width=18 height=18> Toshiba has models 752EF and 753EW. I haven't yet figured out their coding yet.

Re: PAL of mine - hard to find

Well Toshiba finally answered my e-mail. The model 753EF (Pal/Secam) apparenty handles both PAL modes. Picked one up at the Migros yesterday. Have now spent about 4 hours trying to get all the bits to work together - without success. Everytime I turn on the VCR I lose the audio from the Satellite box. Can't figure out why .... any thoughts out there?
