Can't get YAxis label to center (2003)

In the attached chart, I want the "Shown in Hundreds" label to be centered like the Monthly Sales is centered. It doesn't seem to let me, though. I am obviously missing something very simple and will be embarassed.

I think the "display unit" label is always lined up with the top of the value axis, so I don't think there is a setting for what you want. The only way I can think of is by manually dragging the axis title and unit label to the desired position. If somebody proves me wrong, I'll gladly admit it.

    Hans,
Is this a 2003 issue? I don't even see a "shown in hundreds" on your attachment or Melanie's (I am using XL97).

How I would do this is a little different. I entered the entire text including the shown in hundreds as the label. Then I add a line break before 'shown in hundreds' by pressing return. Both are centered on the axis. You can also select the shown in hundreds portion and put that in a smaller font, if you like. See attached.

    Steve,

This feature was introduced in Excel 2000: the Scale tab of the Format Axis dialog has a new dropdown list for units (None, Hundreds, Thousands, Millions, ...) and a check box "Display units". Ticking the check box adds an extra label to the axis.

Note: the additions are displayed in the Format Axis dialog for the y-axis, and for chatter (xy) charts also for the x-axis.

    Cathy:

Yes, that is an elegant solution. There is no link with the actual units used, but whatever method you use, you'll have to do some manual fiddling, so that is not a real disadvantage.

    Thanks, Hans.

I guess this is something that I would have to do by plotting an intermediate data set that is "adjusted" <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>
