Copying a file to a printer

I am making available a program that will allow you to select a file and copy the file to the printer.

    See http://www.standards.com/ThisAndThat...ToPrinter.html.

For example, you should be able to download a unix man page and copy the critter to the printer.

    Howard

I may be stupid but what's wrong with right-clicking on the file in Windows Explorer and selecting Print from the drop-down menu?

Re: Copying a file to a printer

The Print command invokes the associated application and formats the document for printing. If you already have a document containing printer codes (PCL5, PostScript etc) then you just want to copy the byte stream to the printer without further changes.

A good example is the man page for a unix command.

Man pages are formatted to include th eformat effector characters and will not print correctly thru most apps.
Copying to the printer is needed to avoid app messing things up.

Indeed, that's why I developed the program several years ago.

I've added an attempted clarification to the web page.

Thanks, Howard. There are a couple of things on your site that sound useful, even a program to list all fonts. <img src=/S/cool.gif border=0 alt=cool width=15 height=15>
